IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standardized global certification to measure the eligibility of a student’s overall command and understanding in English Language. For those students whose native or first language is not English are highly required to take IELTS test before pursuing higher studies in international universities abroad. Generally, there are two types of IELTS test.
- General
- Academic
Students who are seeking opportunities to study overseas colleges & universities abroad must take the general IELTS test. Almost anyone can take the general form of IELTS regardless of previous educational qualification. According to the British council, those who are average in English can receive better score in General form of IELTS.
Those who are looking forward to study in postgraduate, masters or PHD level are required to take Academic IELTS. It is very important to know which module of IELTS an examinee must take before sitting for IELTS exam.
In order to obtain a student visa in Canada, a student must need to score at least 5.5 in in each of the four segments of Listening, reading, Writing & Speaking sections. An overall 6.0 or above minimum score is required in IELTS for undergraduate courses. For graduate courses, the same goes up to 6.5 and above with a minimum of 6.0 score in each of the four sections. There is no Pass/Fail in IELTS.
A citizen of a foreign country who wants to travel abroad must obtain a visa from an embassy or consulate office for a temporary visit. Generally, the traveler’s passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the period of stay in the applied country unless exempt by country-specific agreement.
GRE
The Graduate record Examination (GRE) is an internationally recognized standardized test. It is required to get admitted in most of the top ranked graduate universities in Canada and the United States. The GRE is owned and administered by Educational Testing Service. In order to be eligible for GRE exam, a candidate must successfully complete their undergraduate courses. Any global students can register for the exam irrespective of age and qualification. A valid passport is mandatory as a legal proof of identity before taking the GRE examination.
GRE EXAM PATTERN
There are total 3(three) sections in GRE examination:
1. Analytical
2. Verbal Reasoning
3. Quantitative Reasoning
The Analytical Writing section will always be the first part of GRE examination. On the other hand, the Verbal Reasoning Quantitative Reasoning plus the no scored sections may appear in any order. The total time limit to complete the GRE exam is 3.5 hours.
